Since the last quarter of 2021, Twitter had announced one of its flagship projects. The social network plans to allow its users who have NFTs to proudly showcase their holdings on the platform. This project had already been in development for a long time.
A new feature on Twitter
On January 20, Twitter announced the launch of the feature that will allow users of the platform to use NFTs as a profile picture. Apart from using NFT as profile picture, this feature will allow other users to check the originality of NFT including its creator, provenance and other necessary details.
However, the new functionality is not accessible to everyone. It is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers. In fact, Twitter Blue was specifically designed to give Twitter users greater options for customizing their use of the site.
Not only is the feature only available to certain subscribers, but in addition, it only works on iOS devices. Twitter recently announced that it is currently working on its launch for Android.
Twitter will do a lot for NFTs and cryptocurrencies
Why does Twitter provide efforts for NFTs? The need to develop an NFT verification function comes as a result of the rise in popularity of NFTs in the year 2021. Indeed, several collections have been launched, and they have attracted the attention of millions of people. Additionally, several Twitter users have used NFTs as profile pictures.
“Twitter is where people go to talk about things that interest them, and often where people have their first experience with cryptocurrency and NFTs,” the company told TechCrunch. “We are now seeing people using NFTs as a form of identity and self-expression, and as a way to join the thriving community and increasingly active conversation on Twitter.”
At launch, the new Twitter feature will support Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, Trust Wallet, and Argent. Platform users will only have to click on the photo in order to obtain relevant details about the NFT, provided they are Twitter Blue users and have smartphones running the iOS system.
“As I build the team, we will strive to understand what the cryptocurrency space can do for Twitter and what Twitter can do for cryptocurrency. Twitter really understands the world of cryptocurrency! But there is so much more to explore here,” said Ms. Rinearson upon her appointment.
Cryptocurrencies and NFTs are at the heart of the new features that Twitter wants to develop. The social network created Twitter Blue with the aim of providing new possibilities for NFT enthusiasts. However, for now, this feature is only available for iOS users.
